Timeline of the Pharaohs

Itinerary:

Day 1 LAX
Depart LAX Airport on board an overnight transatlantic flight.

Day 2 Cairo
We are met by our local English speaking (Egyptologist) guide who is going to stay with us throughout our journey. After lunch, our half-day sightseeing city tour starts with a visit to three millennia of Egyptian Civilization in the Egyptian Museum. You will discover the treasures of Tutankhamen and the Royal Mummies. In the afternoon we will transfer to our hotel in the center of Cairo. Hotel Sheraton of Cairo (L/D)

Day 3 Cairo
In the morning we will take a short trip to Memphis and Sakkara – two of the earlier cities of Lower Egypt. We visit the enormous statue of Ramses II and visit the ancient Step Pyramid of Djoser. No tour of Egypt would be complete without a tour to the ancient Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx.Hotel Sheraton Cairo (B/L)

Day 4 Cairo - Luxor - Nile Cruise
We are taken to the airport for a short flight to the incredible ancient city of Luxor. With its vast array of ancient monuments, Luxor is often called the world’s greatest open air museum. Today’s highlight is a visit to the Valley of the Kings and Valley of the Queens. Secluded in the Theban Hills, it is where the New Kingdom Pharaohs were buried in dramatically shafted tombs built into the hillsides. Next we will visit the Temple of Medinet Habou on the breathtaking Deil el-Bahri. We board our elegant 5-star deluxe cruise ship. The afternoon is free for visiting the local market. Day 5 Luxor - Edfu
After breakfast, we will visit the grand Temple of Luxor which dominates the town and also the gigantic temple complex at Karnak. We explore the mighty Temple of Amun with its mass of obelisks, pylons, colossi and courts. And, we will marvel at the remains of the amazing Avenue of the Sphinx which once stretched between the Temples of Karnak and Luxor. Sail for Eduf. Overnight on cruise. (B/L/D)

Day 6 Edfu - Kom Ombo - Aswan
Today we will visit the Temple of Horus in Edfu to see Egypt’s best-preserved cult temple. Then we continue our cruise along the Nile arriving at Kom-Ombo and visit the Temple in Kom Ombo shared by the two gods Sobek and Haeroeis. We will enjoy afternoon tea while sailing to Aswan. Overnight on cruise. (B/L/D)

Day 7 Aswan - Abu Simble - Aswan
After an early breakfast, we fly to Abu Simble to visit the mighty Sun Temple, flanked by four giant stone statues of Ramses II. The temple was reclaimed from the dam and reconstructed in its present and unforgettable location. We fly back to Aswan. After lunch, we take a memorable Felucca ride across the Nile to visit the Botanical Garden on Kitchener’s Island. The felucca is the traditional craft of Egyptians who have sailed in them for centuries. Overnight on cruise. (B/L/D)

Day 8 Aswan - Cairo
After breakfast we disembark the ship and visit the High Dam and Temple of Isis on the Philae. After lunch we are taken to Aswan airport and fly back to Cairo. Hotel Sheraton of Cairo (B/L)

Day 9 Cairo - Alexandria - Cairo
A pleasant drive through the fertile Nile Delta to the Mediterranean seaport of Alexandria, founded by Alexander the great in 331BC. We visit Pompey’s massive red Granite Pillar, the intriguingly decorated Catacombs, the Alexandria Library and Qiat Bay Fort. Hotel Sheraton of Cairo (B/L)

Day 10 Cairo
After breakfast, we tour the old city of Cairo which includes the hanging Church of St. Mary above the old water gate. Ben Serga Church, Al Rifai Mosque are where the Royals are buried including Ismail Farouk (Egypt’s last King) and Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi king of Iran. Next will be Saladin‘s 12th century citadel, Muhammad Ali Alabaster Mosque. Hotel Sheraton of Cairo (B/L)

Day 11 Cairo - Suez Canal - Cairo
We make a full day excursion to the Suez Cannel and Sinai Desert. The Suez Canal is a large artificial canal in Egypt, west of the Sinai Peninsula. It connects the Mediterranean to the Red Sea and is used for transporting all types of cargo, cruise line and militarily ships. We will visit militarily barracks that were used during the Israeli army’s occupation. Hotel Sheraton of Cairo (B/L)

Day 12 Cairo - LAX
After breakfast we check out and are taken to the airport for our flight back to Los Angeles. On the way to the airport for our flight back home, we will stop at the reviewing stand where President Anwar Sadat was assassinated and proceed to his tomb, to pay respect to a noble and peace-loving man of our time. (B)

Day 13 LAX
We arrive LAX Los Angeles International Airport. (B)
